This club is for children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and is led by Mr Anderson with the help of Mr Fisher who is a school governor.
This is the most exciting club in school! Children demonstrate immense brain power in a battle of minds! Mental competition in its purest form!
Between January and February the club runs once a week, led by our two Kings; Mr Anderson and Mr Fisher. The club is split into two groups; one group is taught the basics of the game, so that they are in a position to eventually play a full game. The second group is for competent chess players to play against each other, in a learning environment, with adult support and instruction.
In March the club moves to a lunchtime and takes a competition format. We are part of the UK Schools Chess Challenge. This means that the children receive prizes for points collected and get the chance to qualify for the Lincolnshire round of the competition. In the past some of the children from school have then even qualified for the North of England round. Also some of our children have been chosen for the Lincolnshire Representative Chess Team.
Power to the Pawn!
