Phonics and reading

Daily reading is the best thing we can recommend during this time.  Read what your child loves to read about, read a new book, share a longer chapter book together, reread their favourites, read whatever you can.  Daily practise will ensure their reading fluency is maintained whilst we are not in school.

The phonics resources below are useful if your child is still learning to segment and blend.  If they are a more confident reader, have a go at one of the 60 second reads, these are good practise for comprehension skills.

If your child is in Year 2, you could have a look at the example reading papers below.  Although the children will not do SATs now, it will help you see the age related reading level your child should be working at.
