Music

Here at Parish, we believe that music is very important and forms an essential part of the broad and balanced curriculum we provide. Through music, children can develop a musical talent, improve their confidence and develop a love of music that can stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Throughout Key Stage 1 children are taught to use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. They have opportunities to play tuned and un-tuned instruments, experimenting, creating and selecting sounds to express themselves musically. They are given opportunities in a cross curricular context to listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music.

In Key Stage 2 pupils build upon the learning from key stage 1 and have opportunities to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control. They develop an understanding of musical composition, organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproduce sounds from aural memory.
