    Dignity, Community, Hope and Wisdom

'Journeying together with hope and aspiration'

By teaching our children that they are members of the world’s community, we show that in learning another language we are given an opening into other cultures.  This encourages our children to treat others with dignity and understanding.  We believe that learning another language inspires curiosity and deepens our wisdom and understanding of the world around us.  At Parish School, we provide opportunities to express our ideas and thoughts in another language, as well as communicating for practical purposes and learning new ways to think.  Learning French at Parish provides the foundation and aspiration for future success in learning further languages.  This encourages confidence to communicate with others and hope and confidence in future opportunities to travel, study or work in other countries.

The national curriculum for languages aims to ensure that all pupils:

    • understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
    • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
    • can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
    • discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
