Dignity, Community, Hope and Wisdom

'Journeying together with hope and aspiration'

At Parish, we inspire our children to be creative and collaborative musicians who learn to appreciate music from different eras, cultures, and genres. We believe that music is a unique way of communicating and sharing that can inspire and motivate children.

We provide opportunities that bring our school community together through whole-school singing, ensemble playing, and performing to the wider community. We develop children's knowledge and understanding through singing, listening, composing, and performing, while nurturing their musicality—an inner set of skills that deepens their ability to respond and connect deeply with music.

Through this, we aim to foster a life-long passion for music and empower children to express themselves with confidence and joy.

The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

    • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
    • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
    • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
