Dignity, Community, Hope and Wisdom

'Journeying together with hope and aspiration'

At Parish Church Primary School we provide learning experiences that engage, inspire and challenge pupils, giving them the confidence to succeed.  We give children the opportunities to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, encouraging their creativity. We provide the children with the knowledge of great artists, craft makers and designers in our community and the wider world.  All children need a meaningful context, a clear purpose and concrete sensory experience in order to learn and progress in Art and Design.  Art and Design is not only a visual experience.  Contemporary art often combines media in multi-sensory works such as installations.  These use the viewer’s sense of touch, hearing and movement through space, as well as sight.  By extending teaching and learning in Art and Design to include all the senses, teachers can provide for the variety of thinking skills and learning styles that will include all learners.

The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
  • evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
  • know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
