Physical Education Curriculum Intent Statement

Dignity, Community, Hope, Wisdom

‘Journeying together with hope and aspiration’

Through the teaching Physical Education we provide children with the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact on their own physical health, well-being, character and personal development. We ensure that all children experience a wide variety of sports and activities that demonstrate physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and health choices. Opportunities for this will be provided in lessons, breaktimes, through the school enrichment programme and the Parish Pathway. PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving. It can teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities.

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.
