Design and Technology Curriculum Intent Statement

Dignity, Community, Hope, Wisdom

'Journeying together with hope and aspiration'

Through inspiring and practical learning experiences that engage, encourage and challenge pupils, they are given the confidence to succeed.  Children have opportunities to experiment, design, invent, create and evaluate their own products, encouraging their creativity and imagination. They experience a varied and broad range of opportunities making links between different subjects and allowing children to become resourceful, innovative and enterprising citizens. A knowledge of mechanisms, textiles, structures and a healthy and balanced diet will assist them in their understanding of life in our community and the wider world.

The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
